HISTORY ASPECTS:
The Sd.Kfz. 234/3 "Stummel" was a heavily armed reconnaissance vehicle developed to support German armored divisions with mobile firepower. Based on the eight-wheeled Sd.Kfz. 234 chassis, this variant was fitted with a short-barreled 75mm K51 L/24 gun, providing increased firepower for infantry support and urban combat. Designed for mobility and rapid response, the 234/3 was used by reconnaissance battalions to engage enemy forces while maintaining the speed necessary for quick withdrawals when needed.
By February 1945, the 3rd Panzer Division was engaged in the brutal battles across Hungary, attempting to slow the Soviet Red Army’s advance. The division took part in Operation Konrad, a series of desperate counterattacks aimed at relieving the encircled German and Hungarian forces in Budapest. The Sd.Kfz. 234/3 played a crucial role in these operations, using its firepower to support German infantry and lighter vehicles in both rural and urban engagements. Its mobility allowed it to navigate the war-torn landscapes of Hungary, but the growing dominance of Soviet armor and air superiority made every mission increasingly perilous.
Despite the valiant efforts of the 3rd Panzer Division, the German counteroffensives in Hungary ultimately failed. Soviet forces continued to push westward, overwhelming German defenses with superior numbers and firepower. Many Sd.Kfz. 234/3s were either destroyed in combat or abandoned due to the worsening logistical situation. As the war neared its end, the surviving vehicles of this type became increasingly rare, making them a unique and significant part of late-war German military history.
This 1:72 scale model authentically recreates the vehicle as used by the 3rd Panzer Division in Hungary during February 1945. With detailed camouflage, realistic weathering effects, and historically accurate markings, this replica is an essential addition for collectors and military history enthusiasts. Bring a piece of battlefield history to your collection with this highly detailed and expertly crafted replica.
