In 1960 the 28th edition Le Mans 24 Hours took place on 25 and 26 June, on Circuit de la Sarthe. The prospect of a duel between the 3-litre (180 cu in) Ferrari versus the 2-litre (120 cu in) Porsche, championship-leaders, caught a large crowds to the race and almost 200.000 spectators gathered for one of the best Europe's classic sports car race, on a 13.5 km (8.4 mi) circuit. Faced with a must-win result to take the World Championship, Ferrari came well-prepared and with 13 entries, divided in official and private teams.
Presented at the Paris Motor Show in 1959, with its singular green nose, the Ferrari 250 GT SWB (Short Wheel Base) had a career successful as brief, gathering many podium, in particular at the Le Mans 24 Hours in 1960 and 1961. Unfortunately, Ferrari with race number 15 did not finish the trophy for an engine damage.
